About D.A.S.H.:

Divorce and separation is one of the most painful events that can happen to a person. Statistics have found that it affects not only the couple involved but at least 12 other people close to them. It is time that the religious community reaches out to these hurting people, both adults and the children that are affected. For too long they have been treated as, and subsequently they feel like, outcasts. We are called to follow in the footsteps of Jesus; just as He reached out to those who were brokenhearted and considered outcasts with love, forgiveness, acceptance and healing, we should do likewise.

For six years, since September of 2000, we have had an adult support group for the divorced and separated (D.A.S.H. Ministries). This year we are going to offer a children’s program as well. The kids program and the adult program will run simultaneously every Saturday night year round.

D.A.S.H. Ministries was the vision of Susan Coburn and her church Edwards Chapel, however, because of their rural location, it was presented to several churches in their district as a possible district wide ministry. Ultimately, it has been a ministry supported by Edwards Chapel U.M., Panama U.M., and now Findley Lake U.M. Churches. D.A.S.H. Ministries has served over 200 adults representing many area churches of all denominations and many who have no church family. We have also offered biblical workshops on healthy relationships and how to do relationships God’s way. We are constantly striving to find ways we can help those caught in this worldwide epidemic of broken families.

D.A.S.H. does not advocate divorce or separation, but recognizes that it is a situation that Christians and Non-Christians are sometimes forced to deal with. We want to be there to offer hope and support during the healing process. Our adult program and subsequently the children’s program are offered to all, the material is nondenominational with a huge message of the healing you can get through Jesus Christ. Throughout the program, the need for a church family is stressed and is, of coursed, offered.

We are fortunate to have excellent material that is thoroughly Biblically based and that uses a host of experts in the field of counseling. That material is “DivorceCare” for the adults and “DC4K” for the kids (see links). Along with the material we also have a small group discussion time where people can talk. D.A.S.H. certainly is a ministry where helping others becomes part of your healing.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the suffering of Christ flows over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.” 2 Corinthians 1: 3-5
