About DASH-4-Kids:

After six years of providing an adult support group for the divorced and separated we have acquired the means to provide a program for the children affected by divorce and separation.

Statistics have found that divorce and separation affects not only the couple involved but at least 12 other people close to them, the most innocent victims being the children. While many like to believe that “children will get over it”, statistics prove that unless dealt with properly, it can affect the rest of their lives, especially in relational aspects.

The same organization, Church Initiative, who made the DivorceCare material, have made material for children called “DC4K”. It is aimed for children ages 5 – 12 but can be adapted for younger children. Older children have been found to benefit while helping as an aide in a group. The kids program and the adult program run simultaneously and basically the same topics, such as depression, anger, forgiveness etc. will be discussed by each; this will possibly open doors between parent and child to discuss these issues together. DC4K material combines games, crafts, activities music and DVD dramas to create a fun atmosphere where children feel comfortable and accepted.

Our program DASH-4-Kids will meet every Saturday evening, year round, 6:30 to 8:30. The program is set up in 13 week cycles which we will run back to back; this way a person can join at any time and not miss anything. The meetings are held at the same time as the adult meetings which will be convenient for the parents who want to attend the adult meetings.

Our hope for this project is to provide a Christ centered, loving environment for the children affected by the divorce or separation of their parents or even grandparents. Healing from this trauma is imperative for future relationships and recognition of God’s love and strength during this time is the key to true healing.
